Archaeology, nature, tradition

The Vulci Naturalistic and Archaeological Park brings together in a single place the Etruscan-Roman excavations, a nature reserve of rare beauty, two traditional restaurants, and the National Archaeological Museum inside the Castle of La Badia.

Archaeology

The excavations of the ancient Etruscan-Roman metropolis of Vulci, with its monumental necropolises, the Great Temple, the Domus of the Cryptoporticus, and the Mithraeum. Three millennia of history across 125 hectares of plateau surrounded by the Fiora River.

Nature

The Fiora canyon, Lake Pellicone, the Valley of Butterflies, Maremma cattle, free-roaming horses, and an exceptionally rich flora. The Park’s Nature Reserve offers ever-changing colors, sounds, and emotions.

Tourism

The National Archaeological Museum of Vulci, housed in the Castle of La Badia — a medieval fortress built on the Etruscan-origin Badia Bridge — preserves vases, bronzes, and sculptures in local stone, from the Villanovan period to the late Roman era. A few kilometers away is the village of Montalto di Castro.

At “Locanda del Parco”, the restaurant inside the Park, tel. 0766 870177, and at “Casale dell’Osteria”, tel. 0766 898247, visitors can enjoy dishes from the Maremma tradition. Both restaurants are closed during certain periods in the winter months. We recommend contacting them by phone.

How to reach us

From the South

Take the Rome–Civitavecchia motorway and then the S.S. 1 Aurelia to the Vulci exit, at km 111. Follow the S.P. del Fiora, then the S.P. della Badia, for a total of 13 km.

From the North

Follow the Livorno–Grosseto road, then the S.S. 1 Aurelia to the Montalto di Castro exit, at km 109. Re-enter the S.S. 1 Aurelia heading north and take the Vulci exit at km 111. Follow the S.P. del Fiora, then the S.P. della Badia, for a total of 13 km.

From the East

Take the Orte–Viterbo highway to Viterbo, then the Viterbo–Tuscania–Montalto di Castro road. In Montalto, take the S.S. 1 Aurelia heading north and exit at km 111, the Vulci exit. Follow the S.P. del Fiora, then the S.P. della Badia, for a total of 13 km.
