Restoration workshop

The restoration laboratory of the Vulci Foundation is located in the historic centre of Montalto di Castro, inside a restored former granary. Arranged over two floors, it covers an area of 400 square metres.

The facility specialises in the restoration and conservation of movable archaeological heritage, including stone finds, ceramics, metals, organic and osteological materials, as well as immovable archaeological heritage, such as walls, plasterwork, floors, and other structures. It works mainly on materials from the various excavation campaigns carried out at Vulci and on the archaeological structures of Vulci Park.

The laboratory was created in 1995 according to modern standards, with advanced technological equipment and centralised systems, including compressed air, dust and fume extraction, and other facilities. Thanks to continuous maintenance and the updating of its equipment, it still retains this level of excellence in the field of archaeological conservation.

Many finds have been restored in the laboratories and are now displayed in museums throughout the Tuscia area, as well as in exhibitions held in Italy and abroad. The remaining materials are kept in the deposits of the Vulci Foundation, protected by an intruder alarm system and, for the most sensitive materials, by continuous climate control.
